Youth Assessor Coach Training

Targeted training for those wanting to be involved with the development of young riders or as to meet the pre-requisite requirements for a British Dressage Youth Assessor Coach.

If you're looking to coach and/or assess BD Youth riders, you're required to hold certain pre-requisites and attend training to become a Youth Assessor Coach. All trainers working with BD riders under the age of 18 must be a compliant BD Coach (with DBS) and evidence attendance at Coaching Young People training. 

There are two youth-specific training opportunities and roles:

Coaching Young People 

A one day training course, focusing on the specialist nature of working with young people and different approaches to aid progression and development.

The programme will cover areas such as:

  • Effectively communicating with young people
  • Key stages of physical and cognitive development
  • Assessing rider biomechanics and improving alignment
  • Delivering engaging sessions for young people

Rider Skills Assessing

A one day training course, covering the BD Youth pathway, Youth Squads and Rider Skills Tests and will include:

  • observation of recorded tests and reviewing score sheets, in order to standardise the assessment of young riders
  • aspects of rider alignment and biomechanical analysis
  • how to appropriately and effectively feedback to young riders

Staying up to date

To stay listed, Coaches and Assessors must maintain all compliance (including DBS) and complete CPD training every two years. Role specific CPD covers any updates within BD Youth, as well as standard-setting on the assessment of young riders and you'll be awarded BD CPD credits.

Sport Science in Coaching

Run in collaboration with the BD Youth National Academy, the annual Sport Science in Coaching day is focused on developments in the field of research and sport science, and their application to coaching young athletes. Dates for 2024 coming soon.
